Bee Lantern
This lantern is very important to me because in Germany on November 11th on St. Martins day children will make lanterns and go walking through the streets singing songs. My mom made me this Bee for my first Laternenlaufen. As a child we would take our lanterns and meet at the Zennek School which was the school I went to when I was in elementary. Then we would walk through the streets singing "lantern songs". I don't remember much about my first "lantern walk", but I do remember the ones from when I was older. We would always get these bread things that were covered in sugar. They tasted a lot like elephant ears. We would drink hot apple cider and a few of the older kids would act out the story of St. Martin. I took the picture from the top and the side because that way you can see all of the details that have been added onto the lantern. I was trying to take pictures from the front but the stinger made it very difficult since it would cover most of the face. |

Papua New Guinea
When my mom was little she used to live in Papua New Guinea. My grandparents were missionaries there. My grandma would go out to collect shells for my mom and her siblings so that they would have something to remember Papua New Guinea by. Over this past summer my grandma gave me some of the shells she collected for my mom, and this is one of the shells. A lot of the shells that she collected are collector items that have very rare patterns. This one is just a normal shell that you can find almost anywhere but it is one of my favorites. I chose to take all of my pictures on the same background because I had the most natural light there. It was very cold outside the day I took the pictures so I was trying to find natural light inside. |
Tauf Kerze
I got this candle from my church when I was baptized. At my church when a baby gets baptized the members of the church will hand paint a candle and light it during the baptism. A lot of people will light the candle on the day that they were baptized, but I keep the candle on my shelf instead of lighting it because I don't want to completely melt it. This candle is also very special to me because my mom helped paint it. All of the things on this candle represent a different part of faith, for example the fish represent christianity. |

Old Toys
I don't remember when or where exactly I got these bees from, but I do know that I've had them since I was very little and that I've always had them somewhere in my room. At the bottom of the flower there's a button that you can press that will make the bees "dance". When I was little this toy was one of my favorites so I never got rid of it. I also believe that this Bee was handprinted and once belonged to my mom. Like with the lantern i also tried to get a picture from both so that you could see all of the little details like the flowers that are painted on the bottom side. |
Baby Shoes
These shows were my first shows as a baby. My mom kept them for me and when we moved to America she gave them to me for me to keep. They are pretty special to me because my mom kept all of my siblings and my first shoes and things like that. I chose the shoes because I love the mustard yellow shoe laces and I thought that they would stand out. Also they are tiny and incredibly cute. |
